In contrast with the first SEVIVON series, with their modern style and look, in the SEVIVON 2019 series, the designer, Avital, has chosen to combine old and new, to create a mix of materials and styles – a combination of recycled Corian for the base of the spinning top, and copper and brass for the handle, using the ancient, traditional craft of hand metal spinning. In the design process, Avital searched for the shape in tradition, the element that conveys an ancient reference to materials used to fashion ritual objects, and to the craft used to make them.
Copper and Brass are strongly identified with traditional Judaica objects. In the past, many Hanukkah menorahs were made from these metals, and the connection to the spinning top as a Hanukkah-related object was only natural.
Combining the metals with the clean, minimalistic Corian created a harmonious result.
Forty numbered spinning tops have been produced in this limited series – twenty with a copper handle, and twenty with a brass handle.
Made in a unique in-house process where we take used Corian and recycle it.
