The first question after I present my job title to people is; so what do you really do?

As you read in my previous post, industrial designer s a person who develops the concepts for manufactured products, such as cars, home appliances, electronics, and toys. We use engineering and art to make products for People!

This is actually a broad definition and in order to really understand it, we need to specify the job description of an industrial designer.

In one quick sentence, he will be the person that thinks and creates the new iPhone.

In order to accomplish that, an industrial designer will typically do the following:

1. Research the users segment that will use the product.

2. Sketch out ideas or create blueprints

3. Use different computer software to develop different models and designs of the sketches.

4. Examine optional materials and production costs to determine manufacturing requirements.

5. Consult and work with other specialists to evaluate design concepts reality. Its important to understand the feasibility and safety to determine if a design is practical

6. Present prototypes to clients approval

Don't forget that every successful process needs to have planing. “Pixar is seen by a lot of folks as an overnight success, but if you really look closely, most overnight successes took a long time.” ~Steve Jobs
